Ingham County Animal Control consists of eightteen people helping protect the community from dangerous and nuisance domestic animal related problems.

There are seven Animal Control Deputies. These deputies are each sworn in by the Ingham County Sheriff to enforce certain laws of the State of  Michigan and the Ingham County Animal Control Ordinance. They are assigned to one of three different shifts:

  • 8:00am - 4:00pm   (4 deputies)
  • 3:00pm - 9:00pm (2 deputies)
  • 9:00am - 5:00 pm  (1 part-time deputy)

Three dispatchers take your calls between 8:00am and 9:00pm  Monday through Friday. On Saturdays two deputies and dispatcher are taking complaints between 8:00am - 4:00pm.

There are three kennel staff in charge of making sure all the pets are clean, watered and fed daily. They will assist you in finding a new pet for your home during regular shelter hours which are Tuesday - Friday 1100am - 6:00pm and Saturday hours from 1100am to 4:00pm.

In the office, three clerks will assist you finding your lost pet or with the purchase of a new pet. Dog licensing is also available here.

Dr. Valerie Chadwick from the Michigan State University Veterinary Clinic is our veterinarian.

The Director and Deputy Director oversee the entire department ensuring a smooth operation.
