INGHAM COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT WITH NEXTEL COMMUNICATIONS TO CONTINUE PROVIDING CELLULAR SERVICE TO SEVEN COUNTY DEPARTMENTS

FOR ONE YEAR

RESOLUTION #01-145

WHEREAS, the competitive nature of cellular service has created an opportunity for the County to reevaluate and renegotiate its current cellular costs and services; and

WHEREAS, the County Controller has directed the Purchasing Department to reevaluate the County's use of cellular service; and

WHEREAS, the County currently has eighty-three cellular phones with Nextel Communications for the Facilities, Community Corrections, Management Information Systems, Prosecuting, Controller, County Parks, and Drain Commissioner Departments; and

WHEREAS, the Purchasing Department has solicited proposals from four cellular companies, and after review and evaluation, the Purchasing Director has determined that Nextel Communications continues to offer the best value to the County for said Departments; and

WHEREAS, that by renegotiating a contract with Nextel Communications, the County will realize approximate annual savings of 45% or $22,752.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners authorizes a contract with Nextel Communications to continue providing cellular service for said departments for a period of one year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that seventy-seven Nextel rate plans will change to the Direct Connect 500 rate plan at $29.99 per month, which provides 100 cellular minutes and 500 Direct Connect minutes per account.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the seventy-seven Nextel phones will be placed under one major account, with individual remittance statements submitted to said Departments.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this contract with Nextel allows Departments to "pool" or share cellular and Direct Connect minutes with other Departments.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the funds for the contract shall be paid from said Departments' budgets.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners authorizes the Board Chair and the County Clerk to sign any necessary contract documents for cellular services as recommended by the County Controller and approved as to form by the County Attorney.
