RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE NEW MOUNT CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW FACILITY



RESOLUTION #02-165



WHEREAS, the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church was organized on August 8, 1964, marking the beginning of this new church and an ending of an affiliation with the Friendship Baptist Church; and



WHEREAS, with 73 persons in attendance, the first worship service was held on August 16, 1964 in the auditorium of the local YMCA; and



WHEREAS, the first pastor of the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church was Reverend Ferdinand S. Fritz, who served as pastor from 1964 until his death on December 20, 1984, during this period the church purchased its first building, then relocated to a new site on Pleasant Grove Road in June of 1977; and



WHEREAS, the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church recently welcomed the community to the 450-person congregation's new home located at 3800 W. Miller Road; and



WHEREAS, at 17,000 square feet, the size of the church more than tripled, some of the major changes include improved technology, a security system, easier access and more parking; and



WHEREAS, its opening marks the completion of one of several church-building projects in the area, this $2 million project was paid for with donations from the congregation and loans; and



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby congratulate Reverend Columbus Clayton and the congregation of the construction of the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners extends its best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
