INGHAM COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE YOUTH VIOLENCE PREVENTION COALITION AS THE (MONITORING AND) ADVISORY BODY FOR PREVENTING AND TREATING DELINQUENCY

RESOLUTION #02-194

WHEREAS, the Ingham County/City of Lansing Youth Violence Prevention Coalition was established in 1994 in response to rising concern regarding crime and violence by and toward children; and

WHEREAS, the Ingham County/City of Lansing Youth Violence Prevention Coalition currently serves as an advisory body to the Ingham County Board of Commissioners on those issues; and

WHEREAS, a need for a comprehensive community approach for delinquency prevention was recognized; and

WHEREAS, planning for implementation of a comprehensive strategy developed by the Ingham County/City of Lansing Youth Violence Prevention Coalition began in early 2000; and

WHEREAS, planning for a comprehensive strategy for Ingham County was completed in March 2002; and

WHEREAS, the Youth Violence Prevention Coalition has appropriately assumed responsibility for implementing and facilitating evaluation of the comprehensive strategy.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County/City of Lansing Youth Violence Prevention Coalition is recognized by the Ingham County Board of Commissioners as the appropriate body for advising the Board of Commissioners in the implementation of the comprehensive strategy for preventing and treating delinquency.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County/City of Lansing Youth Violence Prevention Coalition continues to advise the Ingham County Board of Commissioners regarding policies and programs involving the juvenile justice system.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County/City of Lansing Youth Violence Prevention Coalition provide quarterly briefings to the Ingham County Board of Commissioners on the progress of implementation of the comprehensive strategy.
