RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH A BICYCLE RECYCLING PROGRAM



RESOLUTION #02-196



WHEREAS, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office desires to refurbish bicycles collected as unclaimed or found property, to be repaired and distributed to less fortunate children in Ingham County; and



WHEREAS, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office currently disposes of unclaimed or found bicycles yearly by selling them at auction; and



WHEREAS, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office will utilize inmate labor to repair and refurbish the bicycles and will distribute them to children through contracts with charitable organizations in Ingham County; and



WHEREAS, the bicycle recycling program will provide revenue for tools and parts by returning unsalvageable portions of bicycles to a scrap yards and through donations received for the program from businesses and citizens.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners approves the establishment of the bicycle donation program, which will generate its funding from unsalvageable bicycles taken to scrap yards and the acceptance of donations for the program.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners authorizes the use of unclaimed or found bicycles, which previously have been sold at auction, to be refurbished by inmate labor and distributed through charitable organizations to children in Ingham County.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners directs the Controller to make the necessary budget adjustments in the Ingham County Sheriff's Office 2002 budget for this purpose.
