Introduced by the Ingham County Board of Commissioners:

RESOLUTION HONORING THOSE WHO RECEIVED AWARDS FOR THEIR ROLE IN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE MURDER OF JEANETTE KIRBY

RESOLUTION #02-199

WHEREAS, in 1986, Jeanette Kirby was found brutally murdered in Grand River Park, Delhi Township; and

WHEREAS, a homicide task force was formed and investigated many leads that never resulted in a resolution in the case; and

WHEREAS, in 2000, detectives from the Ingham County Sheriff's Office re-opened the investigation as a result of new information; and

WHEREAS, the investigation was finished in 2001, with a suspect charged, put on trial , and convicted for the murder of Jeanette Kirby.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honor Sgt. Peter Ackerly and Sgt. Larry Harrison for their Ingham County Sheriffs Office Meritorious Service Award, received as a result of their tenacity and unwillingness to let the murder of Jeanette Kirby go unresolved.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honor Captain Greg Harless; Sgt. Jose Estrada; Detective Rodney Beals; Detective Mark Bowser; Special Agent John Mulvaney, Attorney General's Office; Mark Blumer, Special Prosecutor; and Sam Smith, Prosecutor's Office, for their Ingham County Sheriffs Office Certificates of Appreciation, received as a result of their participation in ongoing investigations and task forces that led to the resolution of the Kirby case.
