RESOLUTION HONORING DEBBIE BRINSON
RESOLUTION #02-206
WHEREAS, Debbie Brinson began her career with Ingham County in 1989 as the Adolescent Health Program Coordinator; and
WHEREAS, she led the program through several major periods of expansion which made the program a model in the state and in the nation; and
WHEREAS, Debbie coordinated the Willow Plaza Teen Center, a site that serves over 2,100 teens each year and houses staff who render services in schools and at other community locations; and
WHEREAS, Debbie was a major force in developing Lansing's first school-based health center at the Otto Middle School, a site that provides health and medical care to over 1,100 children and adults each year; and
WHEREAS, she oversaw the development of the Healthy Smiles Dental Center for children, a site that serves approximately 1,500 children each year; and
WHEREAS, under her leadership the Peer Education Program, a program that serves 13,000 young people annually, received national recognition for innovation in teen pregnancy prevention; and
WHEREAS, Debbie also assisted in the establishment of the Ingham County Abstinence Coalition, a program that promotes healthy lifestyles and reaches 1,500 young people each year and also led a coalition of community agencies to establish the Teen Parenting Network program in 1993; and
WHEREAS, during her years of service with Ingham County, Debbie has been a leader in advocacy for pregnancy prevention services for adolescents and has been very instrumental in bringing youth programs to the north side of Lansing.
WHEREAS, she has excelled in her ability to network with community agencies and law makers to provide quality health care for Ingham County youth; and
WHEREAS, Debbie Brinson is leaving her position with the Ingham County Health Department.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honor Debbie Brinson for her many years of dedicated service with Ingham County and for her commitment and devotion to improving the lives of the citizens of Ingham County, particularly the adolescents.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board wishes her continued success in all of her future endeavors.
