RESOLUTION HONORING KATTIE WILLS ON THE EVENT OF HER
100TH BIRTHDAY
RESOLUTION #02-220
WHEREAS, on September 24, 1902, Kattie Wills was born in the small town called Delhi, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Kattie has seen a lot over the past century, having lived through six wars, fifteen United States Presidents, Segregationist Laws, the Civil Rights Act, Racial Turmoil, Depression, Women's Suffrage, the Marshall Plan, the Taft Hartley Act, space exploration and the first man on the moon; and
WHEREAS, she watched as the world evolved with electricity and indoor plumbing in every home, the auto industry, movie and television industry, wireless press, telephones, radio, television and computers; and
WHEREAS, Kattie looked on as the country went from the industrial revolution to the technical evolution; and
WHEREAS, as a single mother with an 8th grade education, she struggled to educate, guide and protect her family; and
WHEREAS, she was and is a diligent worker in the church having served as Sunday School Teacher, Bible Band President, Home & Foreign Mission President, Young People Willing Workers President, taught the Youth Women Christian Council class and also worked in the food department; and
WHEREAS, Kattie serves as the fourth Church Mother of the Lansing Church of God in Christ, a position that she has held for over 50 years; and
WHEREAS, on September 24, 2002, Kattie Wills will be celebrating her 100th birthday.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby congratulate Kattie Wills on the event of her 100th birthday and extends its sincere appreciation to her for the contributions she has made to the community.
