RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN LEASE AGREEMENT WITH CASA FOR SPACE AT THE GRADY PORTER BUILDING/VETERANS MEMORIAL COURTHOUSE COMPLEX



RESOLUTION #02-310



WHEREAS, Ingham County currently contracts with CASA of Lansing Inc. to provide trained volunteers that advocate for abused and neglected children as they go through the legal process in the Ingham County Family Division of Circuit Court; and



WHEREAS, CASA of Ingham County, Inc. is currently looking for office space to administer this program; and



WHEREAS, CASA of Ingham County, Inc. has formally requested office space in the Grady Porter Building/Veterans Memorial Courthouse Complex given their need for space and the unique nature of their relationship and service to the Ingham County Family Division of Circuit Court; and



WHEREAS, the appropriate development of youth and assisting in meeting basic needs are two of the highest priorities of the Board of Commissioners; and



WHEREAS, the County desires to provide this space until such time as the space is needed for other County purposes.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners authorizes a lease agreement for up to 550 square feet of space at the Grady Porter Building/Veterans Memorial Courthouse Complex with CASA of Ingham County, Inc. for one dollar per year ($1.00) effective June 1, 2003 through May 31, 2004 in return for providing trained volunteers that advocate for abused and neglected children as they go through the legal process in the Ingham County Family Division of Circuit Court.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this lease will automatically renew on an annual basis provided that the County does not give CASA 120 days prior written notice that the County is terminating the lease.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners authorizes the County Attorney to prepare the necessary lease documents with the Board Chairperson and the County Clerk authorized to sign the same



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby states its intentions that CASA of Ingham County, Inc. shall not be eligible for Community Agency funding while it is occupying County office space as authorized by this resolution



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the one time cost of renovating the proposed space of up to $3,000 is to come from the public improvements fund (245).
