Introduced by the Finance Committee of the:

INGHAM COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

RESOLUTION URGING THE ROAD COMMISSION TO TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTIONS TO AMELIORATE THE PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE IN ONONDAGA TOWNSHIP

RESOLUTION #02-48

WHEREAS, the Old Plank Road Bridge and Onondaga Bridge in Onondaga Township are in disrepair and have had weight restrictions imposed by the Road Commission; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary for fire and emergency vehicles to cross the Grand River utilizing one of the bridges to quickly reach all portions of their service area; and

WHEREAS, the weight restrictions which have been imposed prohibit fire and emergency vehicles from using the bridges, losing valuable response time when responding to emergency calls jeopardizing the safety of citizens; and

WHEREAS, Camp Highfields is located in an area of Onondaga Township which would experience the delay in response time if an emergency were to occur; and

WHEREAS, Ingham County has a long history with Camp Highfields, located in Onondaga Township, which was established by County officials over 30 years ago; and

WHEREAS, Onondaga Township officials have approached the Board of Commissioners for assistance in dealing with this critical public safety problem which has been created by the deterioration of two bridges and the unfortunate timing of their replacement and repair.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners strongly encourages the Ingham County Road Commission to take such actions as it can to ameliorate the immediate situation of fire and emergency vehicles prohibited from using the Old Plank Road Bridge and Onondaga Bridge in Onondaga Township while taking reasonable steps to protect the public safety.
