RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE INGHAM COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE HEAVY RESCUE SQUAD ON WINNING FIRST PLACE IN THE MICHIGAN FIREMAN'S RESCUE EXTRICATION COMPETITION



RESOLUTION #03-282



WHEREAS, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office Heavy Rescue Squad was formed approximately 25 years ago when a volunteer used common garage tools to pry open the doors and pull windshields out of his own vehicle; and



WHEREAS, currently the Squad is comprised of 12 highly dedicated volunteers that provide a comprehensive rescue/extrication service to the residents of Ingham County; and



WHEREAS, the Squad provides emergency rescue extrication at high impact traffic accidents, air re-supply for area fire departments and the Sheriff's Office Underwater Search and Recovery Unit; and



WHEREAS, the unit also provides emergency lighting at fatal accidents or outdoor crime scenes and spends countless hours training; and



WHEREAS, the Heavy Rescue Squad is on call at all hours of the day and night, during storms and bitter cold temperatures, often sacrificing sleep or time they would normally spend with their families; and



WHEREAS, on September 20, 2003, six members of the Rescue Squad participated in the Roscommon, Michigan Fireman's Rescue Extrication Competition, competing with rescue teams from all over Michigan, winning the First Place trophy for the second year in a row; and



WHEREAS, their second year sweep of the trophy is a tribute to their dedication to excellence in serving the citizens of Ingham County.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby congratulates the Ingham County Sheriff's Office Heavy Rescue Squad for winning first place in the Michigan Fireman's Rescue Extrication Competition for the second year in a row.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board extends its sincere appreciation to each member of the Heavy Rescue Squad for their dedication, and the contributions and sacrifices that have made for the citizens of Ingham County.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.
