RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CLINTON-EATON-INGHAM COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH ON THEIR FAMILY GUIDANCE SERVICE



RESOLUTION #02-298



WHEREAS, Community Mental Health's Family Guidance Service provides in-home and community-based, family-centered treatment services to more than 350 children and adolescents each year who have severe emotional disturbance and are at moderate to high risk for psychiatric out-of-home placement; and



WHEREAS, the Family Guidance Service array of services are intensive, flexible, strength-based, and family-centered and include individual and family psychotherapy, case management, psychiatric medication services, children's emergency services, respite/mentor services, overnight respite, behavior management consultation, social-recreational services, homeless and transitional youth services, juvenile justice mental health screening and referral, and residential and inpatient services; and



WHEREAS, the Family Guidance Service has been providing home-based services as an alternative to more costly and restrictive out-of-home services since 1985; and



WHEREAS, currently the Family Guidance Service is being recognized statewide and nationally for its innovative approach and good outcomes; and



WHEREAS, the Michigan Department of Community Health's Level of Functioning Project has identified Family Guidance Service as an exceptionally effective children's home-based program as evidenced by its positive outcomes with severely impaired youth; and



WHEREAS, researchers from the University of South Florida, under the auspices of a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration federal grant, have identified Family Guidance Service as an innovative and promising best practice model for the treatment of children with severe emotional disturbance nationally.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby commends the Clinton-Eaton-Ingham Community Mental Health Board and staff on the success of the Family Guidance Service.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board sincerely appreciates the commitment and contributions they have made to provide for the well-being of the citizens of Ingham County and wishes them continued success.
