RESOLUTION HONORING ERIK SCHULTINK



RESOLUTION #03-66



WHEREAS, Erik Schultink is a senior at Williamston High School where he holds a 4.0 grade point average; and



WHEREAS, in recognition of his academic achievements, Erik has been chosen to receive the 2003 Presidential Scholars medallion in Washington, D.C. in June, he also scored a perfect 36 on his ACT in April, 2002 making him one of only four students in Michigan and one of 60 nationwide to achieve a flawless score; and



WHEREAS, Erik has been enrolled at Michigan State University since 1998 where he has attended classes in the Honors College and is currently enrolled in the High Achievers Program; and



WHEREAS, Erik has also been actively involved in Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Track and Field, Varsity Tennis, Business Professionals of America, Quiz Busters, Varsity Quiz Bowl, and is also a National Merit Scholar semifinalist; and



WHEREAS, he has been an active participant in Boy Scout Troop #63 since 1996 and has earned 30 merit badges, became a member of the Order of the Arrow in 1998, received his Vigil Award in 2003 and has served in nearly every capacity available to him in the Troop; and



WHEREAS, his eagle project was painting address numbers on the curbs of homes in the northeast section of Williamston, encompassing approximately 300 homes, which provided the community with uniform and easy to find addresses for fire and ambulance services in the community as well as delivery drivers and others traveling in the Williamston community, he spent 23 hours planning this project and with the help of 15 volunteers spent over 131 hours implementing the project.



WHEREAS, Erik has earned the highest rank attainable in Scouting, the Eagle Scout; and



WHEREAS, to achieve the Eagle rank, a scout must demonstrate leadership and citizenship while earning 21 merit badges before reaching the age of 18.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners congratulate Erik Schultink for earning the rank of Eagle Scout and extend its sincere appreciation to Erik for serving as a positive role model for the youth in our community.
