RESOLUTION HONORING KAREN MARTIN
RESOLUTION #04-297
WHEREAS, Karen Martin began her career with Ingham County/MSU Extension in February 1994 serving as Extension Educator and program supervisor for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (FSNEP); and
WHEREAS, during her years of service to Ingham County, Karen has provided excellent educational programs and caring program supervision for the mutual benefit of her staff and the clientele they serve; and
WHEREAS, she has worked to build effective communication and partnerships with other county departments and services, and with other community-based organizations and programs, to further the well-being and health of children and families through programs that encourage improved knowledge, skills and behaviors in the area of nutrition, diet, child and family development and family resource management; and
WHEREAS Karen has demonstrated her desire to provide quality leadership by completing the North Central Extension Leadership Development Training Series (NELD) and by providing excellent leadership, training and support to her Extension colleagues and team members to encourage quality Extension programming in Ingham County; and
WHEREAS, Karen has been active on many coalitions in the local community including co-chairing the Ingham County Employee Wellness Committee and served on many MSU campus based planning and program development groups including chairing the Food, Nutrition and Health Area of Expertise Team; and
WHEREAS, she has introduced many innovations in staff management and program development to ensure a relevant and successful family nutrition education program; and
WHEREAS, she has been an ardent proponent of valuing diversity and ensuring Extension programs are available to all Ingham County residents as exemplified by her service to MSU Extension as a regional Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor, active participation in the annual local holiday season diversity celebration dinner and in her recent recognition for excellence in “Diversity Award” bestowed by Epsilon Sigma Phi Extension professional organization for successfully developing programs that involve and serve diverse audiences; and

WHEREAS, after more than ten years of service with Ingham County MSU Extension, Karen has accepted a promotion within MSU Extension to be the State Program Leader for EFNEP/FSFNEP as of October 1, 2004.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honors Karen
Martin for her years of dedicated service to the
