RESOLUTION HONORING THE WOMEN=S RESOURCE CENTER ON THE

EVENT OF ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY

 

RESOLUTION #04-327

 

WHEREAS; the Women=s Resource Center of Lansing Community College was founded by Dr. Beverly Hunt in 1974; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Hunt saw the need for support services for re-entry women who, at the time, were beginning to consider returning to school or work outside the home; and

 

WHEREAS, the Women=s Resource Center now provides support services to both women and men who are considering returning to school, exploring career options, or needing support during a life transition; and

 

WHEREAS, many of the Women=s Resource Center students are single parents, displaced homemakers, non-traditional career students and low-income persons; and

 

WHEREAS, the Women=s Resource Center helps students address the barriers in returning to school by offering grants to eligible students to assist with the cost of tuition, textbooks, transportation, and child care; and

 

WHEREAS, the Women=s Resource Center is a prominent front door to college and provides a safe, supportive environment for students to begin their journey; and

 

WHEREAS, on November 4, 2004, the Women=s Resource Center will be celebrating its 30th anniversary.

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honors the Women=s Resource Center on the event of its 30th anniversary and extends its sincere appreciation to the Women=s Resources Center for its many contributions and for making a difference in the lives of the citizens of Ingham County.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board wishes the staff of the Women=s Resource Center continued success in all of their future endeavors.
