We are pleased to announce an on-line application for marriage.  This form may be submitted on-line, saving you time in our office.  Follow the prompts below and complete the form.  Be sure to "submit" and "confirm" the form when finished.  Then either the bride or the groom must appear in our office to sign the affidavit, take the oath, and pay for the license.  This should be done at least three days prior to the wedding date. 

On-line Marriage Application   

Individuals applying for a marriage license are NOT required to receive blood testing or HIV counseling. However, the County Clerk must provide written educational materials regarding prenatal care and the transmission and prevention of venereal diseases and HIV infection.

Michigan residents must apply for the license in the county in which one of the applicants live, but can get married anywhere within the State. The fee for a Michigan resident to apply for a marriage license is $20.00. There is a 3 day waiting period following application. Once the license is issued, it must be used within 30 days. (Once completed Ingham County residents must come into a local office to pay for and sign the affidavit.)

Out of state individuals applying
for a Michigan marriage:

Out of state individuals applying for a Michigan marriage license must apply for the license in the county in which the marriage is to take place. An "Affidavit for License to Marry" may be downloaded and printed from our website by clicking here. Out of state applicants must submit a notarized affidavit to Ingham County Clerk, P.O. Box 179, Mason, MI 48854. Out of state residents may apply by mail. Please include the date of marriage and a daytime phone number below the signature line in case we have questions. The application fee for out of state applicants is $30.00.

(Effective December 1, 2004 we cannot accept out-of-State
 checks. Please use a money order or a credit card).

Those desiring to contract marriage must be at least 18 years of age.  Applicants must show picture identification as proof of residence and age.  All applicants must also provide their Social Security number when completing the affidavit.  Those persons 16 or 17 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to execute a consent form, and provide proof of age.
