Seasonal Road Maintenance Positions (5) $8.00/hour
Responsibilities: Duties include mowing lawns, hand cutting weeds, cutting trees and roadside brush, ditching, patching blacktop, construction flag person, shoveling stone on seal coat construction, painting, guardrail repair, sandblasting, painting bridges and placing concrete on bridge decks, and other road maintenance and construction-related work.
Essential Job Functions: Must be physically able to work outdoors in all types of weather, to be exposed to hot asphalt or diesel engine fumes, and walk and stand for long periods of time. Also must have the physical capacity to lift various weights up to 50 pounds. Experience with farm tractors and mowers preferred for certain positions. Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license. Must successfully pass a test for illegal drugs and controlled substances.
Location: These positions will work out of the Metro District Garage in Lansing, the Western District Garage in Mason, and the Eastern District Garage located between Dansville and Williamston.
Seasonal Engineering Department Positions (3) $11.00/hour
Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Engineering and Engineering Department Supervisors, Engineering Department seasonal internships are for college engineering students with knowledge of general engineering theory and the practice of that theory. Seasonal interns will be required to perform all types of engineering related tasks including, but not limited to, topographic surveying, construction staking, paving inspection, computer input, calculations, printing, conduct traffic volume counts using traffic classifiers, conduct traffic turning movement counts using traffic counting equipment, transferring the field data from the traffic classifiers to a desk top computer and maintaining the office traffic count inventory maps.
Essential Job Functions: Must be physically able to work outside in all types of weather. Must be physically able to be on their feet for long periods, bend and squat repeatedly, be able to drive construction stakes with a eight-pound sledge hammer, and have the physical ability to lift various weights up to 50 pounds. Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license. Must successfully pass a test for illegal drugs and controlled substances.
Location: These positions will report to work at the Ingham County Road Commission general office building located at 301 Bush Street, Mason.
