The Motor Division Reserve Unit is a group of six sworn special deputies from both the Ingham and Eaton County Sheriff's Office who provide security and act as escorts for special events, such as accompanying visiting college football teams to and from Michigan State University. The dedicated members of this unit receive no compensation for their services and provide and maintain all necessary equipment, including motorcycles, at their own expense. Members of the unit are trained in motorcades, traffic enforcement, and are qualified through specialized training provided by the Michigan State Police, Ingham County Sheriff's Office, and Eaton County Sheriff's Office, to assist the United States Secret Service with additional security when any dignitary or elected official is present in the county.
