*What is Ingham County 4-H Council? The Council's Constitution states that its purpose is to promote, implement and guide the 4-H Youth Program in Ingham County by working with 4-H members and the county MSU Extension staff. In addition, the Council assists in establishing policy and procedures for the 4-H Youth Programs in the county. In other words, Council takes input from 4-Hers, both young and old, throughout the county and provides advice and assistance to the MSU Extension 4-H staff. In addition, Council, through its committees, conducts training sessions, raises money to help members attend 4-H functions and more.

Who is on Ingham County 4-H Council? Council consists of 4-H members, both adults and youth, from throughout the county. The county has been divided into five areas, and each area is to have at least two adults and two youth representatives (see the General Announcements section for a listing of current Council members). In addition, the County 4-H Ambassadors are members of Council. Council members are elected at the annual awards banquet for a two year term. Members can serve for up to eight years before they are required to take a break from Council.

How does Council carry out its responsibilities? Council meets on the third Wednesday of every month for about two hours. During these meetings committee reports are presented and necessary business is conducted. However, the majority of the work is done by dedicated volunteers on the committees.

How can you have input? Input from 4-H members is absolutely critical in order for both Council and the MSU Extension 4-H staff to meet the needs of Ingham County 4-Hers. You can have input by contacting a Council member, serving on a committee or contacting a 4-H staff member.
