Ingham County 4-H Council Meeting

July 17, 2009

Meeting called to order by Sandy at 7:00

Pledges were done

Approval of Agenda: Suzie made a motion to approve the agenda and Chuck seconded the motion.

B) Attendance:                                                                     

Sandy Carey, Debbie Miller, Suzie Chamberlain,  Ginger Kenny -Sweet,  Nancy McCowan  Charles Goeke, Betty Jo Nash, Gene Schinder, Jennifer Moggross, David Showers, Jackie Parkhurst,  Penny Jezuit,  Leanne Barnett, Jenna Waite, Carson Riehl, Mary Riehl, and Dakota Reihl.

           

C)  Secretary’s Report Chuck made a motion to accept the minutes and Jackie seconded the report.

D) Treasures report: There was $826.62 in the checking account.   The CD made $192.43.

E)  Fair Board Report

            1.  There will be no draft horses, this year.

2.  The fence should also be done.

3.  They are repaving the parking lot. 

4. Rabbits and poultry will be judged in the old craft building.

5.  The Superintendent and clerk dinner will July 23rd.

6.  Need to have Circle of Life volunteers.  See Joanne or Jim Henshaw.

7.  There will be three interviews for the fair liaison position. 

8.  Camping will place all of the trailers’.  There are a few places still. 

 

F) Correspondence and Announcements

            There was a Thank You from the Ingham County Sharpshooters.  Mr. Bean sent a thank you note for the support. 

F) 4-H Staff   

*   Be Your Own Boss is going to be in Williamston.  There will be crafts at the camp.  Such as the Duct Tape Man. 

*   The fair numbers are about the same as last year. 

*   The 21st century program with Lansing Schools.

*   There will be a Youth Festival.

*   There also will be a current board members display. 

 

 

G) Ambassadors

*   Mary Riehl will be the leader. 

*   They need to get 2 tee shirts to Debbie.

 

H) Committee Report

Nominations:   Chuck and Ginger changed the Master list.  When council first started out voting was checked every year. There were two adults and two youth for each section.  Now there can be up to 4 youth and 4 adults for each section.  The new constitution and letter was sent through e mail.  It explains the changes and number of members.  Can appoint members till fair week. 

 

Fund Raising:  

*    Learned a few things that might make fair week go smoother.

*     Stephanie is working ion getting some money back because we were overcharged.

*    Chuck made a motion that the popcorn and popping oil will be donated to Susie’s church.  Jackie seconded the motion. 

Food Booth

*    Sign up for a time to work. 

*    The food booth now has the option were people can buy $4.00 meal tickets to the food booth. 

Fair

*    The group painted the clovers.

*    Decided that they would use the drapes.

*    In the future they might let the clubs create their own display. 

*    Judging will take place everyday on the booths.

*    Debbie will do the posting.

*    Chuck will do a spreadsheet.

Horse:  

*    No serious problems at horse camp.

*    About 28 delegates will attend the state 4-H Horse Show on Aug.  7-9.      

Goats:  About 11 students went to States and they did well.

Shooting Sports: They are shooting tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday. 

Livestock Committee:  Had a meeting Monday.  They finalized the constitution. 

 

Old Business:  National Congress came and went.  Ginger will check to see if there are any openings still.   

 

New Business:

The 4-H B-Q will be at the fair. Proceeds will sponsor Americore. 

 

Suzie made a motion to not meet in Aug.  Chuck seconded the motion.

 

Chuck made a motion to end the meeting at 8:13 and Jackie seconded it.
