Children,
Youth &
Family Programs
People are deeply affected by the environments in which
they grow and learn, by the people with whom they interact and by the
communities in which they live. Children, youth and their families can be
successful or can be put at risk by economic, emotional, health and
educational factors in their communities.
Michigan State University Extension’s Children, Youth and Family
Programs help families succeed by improving life in homes, schools and
communities.
MSU Extension’s Children, Youth and Family Programs offer educational
opportunities designed to meet the needs of people at all stages of the
life cycle. Through nonformal educational experiences built on the
research and knowledge of Michigan State University, families can find
resources for:
- Supporting the positive growth and development of people across the
life cycle.
- Providing nutritious, healthy and economical meals.
- Developing the potential of young people.
- Keeping food safe.
- Learning how to give back to the communities in which they
live.
MSU Extension’s Children, Youth and Family Programs also offer
professionals who work with children, youth and families access to:
- University research and knowledge.
- Professional development
opportunities that address issues facing children, youth and families.
- Educational materials and events.
- A statewide network of MSU Extension
staff in all 83 counties.
MSU Extension’s Children, Youth and Family Programs are community
based. Our programs allow people to build life skills and expand their
knowledge about important issues and about themselves. This learning takes
place where people live, with a focus on issues that communities have
identified as critical to meeting the needs of children, youth and
families.
