COMMUNITY SERVICE

Judges often assign community service hours as part of the sentence.  On occasion, the Magistrate will allow a traffic violator to complete community service hours to waive some of the fine/costs.  (Community service hours may never allow the waiver of points on driving record.)  Non waivable fees must be paid before Community Service Hours will be allowed for the balance due.  Community service must be approved in advance before beginning the service.

You must complete all hours assigned to you.  Failure to complete your community service hours could result in a BENCH WARRANT issued for your arrest, possible jail time or other sanctions as the Court deems appropriate.

A list of approved community service organizations appears below.  It is your responsibility to contact the agency and set appointments to have your hours completed by the "completion date".   In the event you are unable to find hours at one of the given agencies, you must CONTACT THE COMMUNITY SERVICE COORDINATOR at (517) 676-8335 for a list of other potential agencies.  You may not work any agency not specifically approved IN ADVANCE by the Community Service Coordinator.

THE COURT MUST RECEIVE WRITTEN VERIFICATION FROM THE AGENCY THAT THE COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS WERE COMPLETED BY THE COMPLETION DATE.  This verification must include your name, the agency name and address and the supervisor's name from that agency.  For each shift worked, your verification sheet needs to include the date you worked, the number of hours you worked, the supervisor's name written out for that shift and the signature of that supervisor on that shift.

LIST OF AGENCIES

The following agencies are pre-approved by the 55th District Court for community service hours.  If you should find another non profit agency not on this list and you desire to perform your community service hours at that agency, you MUST RECEIVE ADVANCE CONFIRMATION AND APPROVAL from the Community Service Coordinator prior to beginning any such work.
