In 1993, soccer enthusiasts approached the Ingham County Parks Board indicating a need for a soccer complex.   In 1997, with a grant from the Department of Natural Resources,  Ingham County and the City of Lansing entered into a joint agreement to construct a soccer complex for the tri-county area.   A site for the soccer complex was selected, an abandoned landfill on Aurelius Road between Miller and Jolly Roads, in Lansing.

In April of 1997, the soccer complex was named after Kenneth A. Hope as a tribute for his many years of outstanding and dedicated public service.

Construction began in 1998.   The County established an intensive turf management program with the help of MSU's Research Center in 1999.    On September 9, 2000 a grand opening celebration was held to mark the opening of the Kenneth A. Hope Soccer Complex.
