Wings From Down Under is closed for the season
Strolling through the beautiful gardens near the
Bald Eagles and pond can be both relaxing and
educational. Several signs along the way tell you
how you can make your yard both lovely to look at
and beneficial to wildlife in your neighborhood by
attracting birds, butterflies, and other animals.
One of the main attractions for kids at the zoo is
our Barnyard and petting zoo. Here you'll find
adorable pygmy goats from Africa, saanen goats from
Switzerland, yaks, burros, reindeer, toy China pigs,
and huge Aldabra tortoises. Take a break from your
walk around the zoo as you let the kids feed the
goats or pet a pig. It's great fun for one and all!
The Bird and Reptile house includes dozens of
animals ranging from Boas, Emerald Tree Snakes, and
Gila Monsters to Macaws, Owls, and the highly
endangered Bali Mynah bird.
Welcome to a world of sunken ships, living reefs,
rainbow-colored fish, and amazing scientific
discovery, for you have just entered Potter Park
Zoo's new Coral Reef Exhibit! Located in the
Education Center, our new exhibit is a feast for the
eyes and food for thought. Here you'll find many
species of exotic fish, shrimp, crustaceans, eels,
and living corals.
With its opening in 2000, the Exploration and
Discovery Center for Education marks a new era in
the Potter Park Zoo's educational program. This huge
facility includes classrooms, the Safari Room for
meetings, a special educational exhibit room for
temporary wildlife presentations, and offices for
the Society and its volunteers.
Originally built in 1930, the Lion House was
renovated in 1989 and became the Feline and Primate
Building.
Visiting Wolf Woods is like taking an adventure to
the wild northern woods of the Upper Peninsula or
Canada. You'll enter a log cabin that has a large
picture window that looks out into our exhibit of
endangered Eastern Timber Wolves. Also included in
this exhibit are a variety of wildlife artifacts and
a video about current conservation efforts that are
underway to help protect our dwindling wolf
populations.
Relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of our Duck Pond
area at the zoo. Here you can view ducks, geese,
swans, and even a few unusual species like a
pelican.
