In 1990, Sheriff Gene L. Wriggelsworth and Delhi Charter Township entered into a contractual agreement to provide police services to Delhi Township through the year 2011. In June of 1996, Delhi Township took another step forward in providing quicker response time to those who are in need of emergency medical treatment by assigning paramedic/deputies to this area. The staffing of the Delhi Township Unit consists of one Lieutenant, in charge of day-to-day operations of the Unit; two Sergeants assigned to road patrol duties; two Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Section; five deputies assigned to general patrol duties; five deputy/paramedics assigned to general patrol duties; one deputy assigned to the Tri-County Metro Narcotics Squad; one Deputy assigned as a Community Services/D.A.R.E. Officer; one Deputy assigned as a Community Policing Business Officer; three Deputies assigned as Community Policing Officers; one full time Clerical; one part time Clerical.

Delhi Charter Township consists of 27 square miles, with a population of 22,000 people. Much of the township is in medium density single family dwellings, however there are areas that range from heavy density multiple family dwellings to some rural farmlands. There are roughly 450 businesses located within Delhi Township. The Delhi Township Unit of the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office responds on an average to 7,700 calls for service a year.
