Ingham County Sheriff's Department |
Tri-County Metro Narcotics Squad |
Originally formed in 1968 as the Narcotics Unit, the Tri-County Metro Narcotics Squad is the oldest multi-jurisdictional drug task force in Michigan. The original team had only five officers and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office was one of the original law enforcement agencies to assign personnel to this team. In 1971, the Michigan State Police assumed supervision of the Metro Squad, which has gone on to serve as a model for other drug task forces developed across the State of Michigan.
The Metro Squad’s mission is to investigate, arrest, and prosecute drug traffickers at all levels with emphasis on mid to upper level drug trafficking. Each year the team seizes illegal drugs with a street value between $1,500,00.00 to $3,000,000.00 and illegal assets valued in excess of $300,000.00. The team also provides investigative support to local agencies within Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton counties on area homicides or other violent crimes.
In addition to assistance from the County Prosecutor’s Office and clerical staff, Metro Squad members represent the following law enforcement agencies:
- Michigan State Police
- Ingham County Sheriff’s Office
- Eaton County Sheriff’s Office
- Clinton County Sheriff’s Office
- Lansing Police Department
- East Lansing Police Department
