Introduced by the
INGHAM
RESOLUTION APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE
CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF THE INGHAM
RESOLUTION #04-218
WHEREAS,
2005 marks the 100th anniversary of the Ingham
County Courthouse; and
WHEREAS,
the Courthouse is the backbone of
WHEREAS,
in 1971 the Courthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, in 1980 a renovation study was done to
preserve the Courthouse and to improve efficiency of operations, in 1995, after
fifteen years of renovations and restoration work, the final work of decorating
the public areas was completed; and
WHEREAS,
the Ingham County Historical Commission has been
working on plans for celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Courthouse; and
WHEREAS, the day-long festivities will take place on
Saturday, May 7, 2005 and will include music, historical, community displays
and tours of the Courthouse along with food concessions, provided by County
civic and non-profit organizations, as well as a "Celebrity-Scoop"
ice cream social; and
WHEREAS, a Centennial Ceremony with noted dignitaries
and the dedication of a 21st century time capsule will highlight the
celebration; and
WHEREAS,
in preparation for this historic event, it is necessary to restore the State
of Michigan’s Historical Marker on the
Courthouse grounds and to remove the time capsule from the cornerstone, that
was placed in the structure of the building 100 years ago; and
WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate this important
mark in
THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of
Commissioners hereby authorizes the appropriation of up to $7,500 from the Contingency
Fund to the Historical Commission for the Centennial Celebration of the Ingham County Courthouse.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Controller is authorized to make the necessary
budget adjustments.
