RESOLUTION DESIGNATING FEBRUARY 7, 2004 AS "BLACK AIDS AWARENESS AND INFORMATION DAY" IN INGHAM COUNTY



RESOLUTION #04-027



WHEREAS, HIV/AIDS has greatly impacted the Black community in Ingham County; and



WHEREAS, increasingly Blacks comprise an ever increasing portion of those living with new HIV infections and AIDS; and



WHEREAS, it is extremely important to raise awareness of the potential for HIV infection in the Black community and offer culturally appropriate HIV and AIDS programs and services to the community; and



WHEREAS, Black AIDS Awareness and Information Day brings an opportunity to increase community awareness and dialogue, to commemorate those lost to AIDS related complications, to inspire greater leadership in the fight against HIV and AIDS, and to stimulate community involvement to fight the further spread of the virus.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaims February 7, 2004, as "Black AIDS Awareness and Information Day" in Ingham County and urges all citizens to take part in activities and observances designed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in the Black community.
