RESOLUTION ENDORSING AN APPLICATION THAT INCLUDES LANSING

TOOL AND ENGINEERING, INC. FOR DESIGNATION AS A TOOL AND

DIE RECOVERY RENAISSANCE ZONE

RESOLUTION #04-315

WHEREAS, the Ingham County Economic Development Corporation desires to promote economic activity and increase the number of jobs available to residents of the area; and

WHEREAS, Michigan’s economy depends heavily on a metal products manufacturing cluster; and

WHEREAS, the tool and die industry is central to that cluster; and

WHEREAS, the tool and die industry has suffered loss of establishments and employment recently and faces severe competition from off-shore tool and die firms; and

WHEREAS, the State of Michigan has created legislation establishing Tool and Die Recovery Renaissance Zones to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of the tool and die industry; and

WHEREAS, Lansing Tool and Engineering, Inc. meets the criteria stipulated in Public Act 202 of 2004;

WHEREAS, the Ingham County Economic Development Corporation has endorsed the application by the consortium that includes Lansing Tool and Engineering, Inc. to the Michigan Strategic Fund for designation as a Tool and Die Recovery Renaissance Zone; and

WHEREAS, the Economic Development Corporation is recommending that the Board of Commissioners also endorse the application.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners supports Lansing Charter Township’s application for a Renaissance Zone and urges the State of Michigan to act favorably on the consortium’s application.  .

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution will be forwarded to Lansing Charter Township and the Board of Michigan Strategic Fund.
