RESOLUTION TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF A LOOP ELECTROSURGICAL EXCISION PROCEDURE UNIT FOR THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT’S CEDAR COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER

WHEREAS, Ingham County Health Department operates a Women’s Health Services Clinic within its Cedar Community Health Center; and
WHEREAS, the Women’s Health Services Clinic medical providers do not currently have the resources to perform a Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) necessitating a referral to an external provider; and
WHEREAS, LEEP is a standard medical office procedure designed to diagnose and/or treat the uterine cervix (neck of the womb) of women with abnormal Pap tests; and
WHEREAS, the Medical Director for Women’s Health has indicated that this is a procedure that should be performed on-site and has recommended the purchase of a LEEP unit; and
WHEREAS, the Deputy Health Officer for Community Health Care Services has performed a revenue analysis and has indicated that the return on investment for a LEEP unit from billable procedures would cover the unit’s purchase before the end of fiscal year 2008; and
WHEREAS, the Health Officer has recommended that the Board of Commissioners authorize the capital purchase of a LEEP unit with a maximum expenditure of $5,000.00.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners authorizes the purchase of a LEEP unit not to exceed $5,000.00.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Controller is authorized to amend the Health Department’s 2008 Budget in order to implement this resolution.
