RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE A GRANT FROM THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY TO FUND A TRI-COUNTY REGIONAL

UNWANTED AND EXPIRED MEDICINES COLLECTION

 

RESOLUTION #08-144

 

WHEREAS, the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) is mobilizing citizens and communities in the Great Lakes basin to collect and safely dispose of household unwanted and expired medications through its Great Lakes Collections program; and

 

WHEREAS, the Ingham County Board of Commissioners recognizes the threat to water quality posed by inappropriate disposal of unwanted medications; and

 

WHEREAS, the USEPA has announced a Great Lakes Collections grant of $19,219.95 to the Ingham County Health Department to fund a Tri-County Regional Unwanted and Expired Medicines Collection; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Officer has recommended that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners accept the Great Lakes Collections grant from the USEPA.

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners accepts the Great Lakes Collections grant from USEPA.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the period of the grant shall commence on April 21, 2008 and run through December 31, 2008.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Office of Management and Budget shall provide Ingham County with $19,219.95 during the grant period to implement the actions, activities, and services included in the Health Department’s Tri-County Regional Unwanted and Expired Medicines Collection proposal.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Controller, on the recommendation of the Health Officer, is authorized to utilize grant funds to reimburse County employees for travel and other expenses related to the Great Lakes Collections program as included in the proposal and budget, utilizing the standard procedures and reimbursement rates set out in policies adopted by the Board of Commissioners for Ingham County employees.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Controller is authorized to amend the Health Department’s 2008 budget to implement this resolution.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board Chairperson is authorized to sign any agreement accepting the Great Lakes Collections grant from USEPA after review by the County Attorney.
