RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE AGREEMENTS WITH THE GIFT OF LIFE

ORGAN PROCUREMENT ORGANIZATION AND MIDWEST EYE BANKS

RESOLUTION #08-171

WHEREAS, anatomical donations may save or enhance the lives of up to one thousand people a year in Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Medical Examiner Offices in Michigan counties are required by the Uniform Anatomical Gift Law to participate in anatomical donations programs; and

WHEREAS, the Uniform Anatomical Gift Law specifies that each county must enter into an agreement with a federally designated organ procurement organization (OPO), a tissue bank and an eye bank; and

WHEREAS, in Michigan anatomical donations are coordinated by Gift of Life Michigan OPO and Midwest Eye Banks.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners authorizes agreements with the Gift of Life organ procurement organization and Midwest Eye Banks.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this agreement shall be for an indefinite term.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that either party shall be able to terminate this agreement upon 90 days written notice to the other parties.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Gift of Life Michigan shall reimburse the Medical Examiner for reasonable costs incurred in the course of extraordinary medical examinations or other costs related to maintaining a body in a condition suitable for donation including but not limited to transportation and facility costs that would not otherwise have been incurred.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board Chairperson is authorized to sign the Agreements after review by the County Attorney.
