RESOLUTION HONORING JOSHUA VERCRUYSSE

 

RESOLUTION #08-335

 

WHEREAS, Joshua Vercruysse is a 2008 graduate of Sexton High School where he enjoyed participating on his high school’s wrestling, tennis and football teams; and

 

WHEREAS, Joshua also participated on the F.I.R.S.T. (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Team, competing with other schools and organizations from around North America in the sport involving robots built from scratch earning the “Rookie Inspiration Award”; and

 

WHEREAS, Joshua has joined the United States Navy through the delayed entry program and will be attending Basic Training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Joshua has been an active Scout for nine years, starting at Lansing’s Lewton Elementary School’s Pack 498 in 1999, he then joined Troup #411 in 2001, his scout leadership history includes experience as Instructor, Librarian and Senior Patrol Leader; and

 

WHEREAS, he participated in a troop high adventure to Isle Royal in the summer of 2007 and participated in many camporees including a trip to Wadiscoca in Canada where he helped his patrol claim the chariot race championship trophy; and

 

WHEREAS, to achieve the Eagle rank, a scout must demonstrate leadership and citizenship, while earning 21 merit badges before reaching the age of 18 and must also complete a service project for the benefit of his community, school or religious institution; and

 

WHEREAS, Joshua’s service project consisted of redesigning and planting a perennial garden and memorial rose garden, general landscaping and repair of an oak cross and sign at Christ United Methodist Church, where he supervised the layout and design of the many plants used and solicited donations of materials including river rock and plants; and

 

WHEREAS, with 25 merit badges, Joshua has earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honors Joshua Vercruysse for achieving the Eagle Scout rank and serving as a positive role model for the youth in our community.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.
