RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING PAULA CUNNINGHAM ON RECEIVING

THE 2008 DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN AWARD

RESOLUTION #08-074

WHEREAS, the Chief Okemos Council of the Boy Scouts of America established the Distinguished Citizen Award in 1977 to honor outstanding individuals who serve the Greater Lansing area and have dedicated themselves to their professions, the community and the support of youth programs; and

WHEREAS, Paula Cunningham, President and CEO of Capitol National Bank, is a recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Citizen Award; and

WHEREAS, from October 2000 until February 2006, Paula served as President of Lansing Community College, where she successfully led a community millage campaign to generate an additional $9 million for the institution; and

WHEREAS, under her leadership, the college implemented a strategic planning process that resulted in five new buildings, significantly renewing the college; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, the main building on the LCC campus was officially named the Paula Cunningham Administration Building; and

WHEREAS, Paula’s dedication to education and community have been recognized by many organizations, she has received numerous awards and recognition throughout her career, some of which include: feature article in Ebony Magazine as a Woman on the Move, Athena Award, Child Advocate of the Year Award, Excellence in Education Award by SBC Ameritech, and Honorary Achiever of the Year Award by the YMCA.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby congratulates Paula Cunningham on receiving the 2008 Distinguished Citizen Award from the Chief Okemos Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board appreciates the contributions she has made to the community and wishes her continued success in her future endeavors.
