RESOLUTION HONORING THOMAS J. DOYLE

RESOLUTION #09-318

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Doyle began working for the Ingham County Road Commission on September 6, 1977, as a Class 3 truck driver, assigned to the Stockbridge Garage in Williamston; and

WHEREAS, Tom’s responsibilities included driving a single axle truck, mowing roadsides, cutting trees and brush, and performing road maintenance, including snow removal; and

WHEREAS, in 1981, the Road Commission closed the Stockbridge Garage and combined both the Williamston and Stockbridge areas in to one newly constructed garage on Howell Road, which became the Eastern District Garage; and

WHEREAS, Tom began working in the Eastern District Garage in 1981 upon its completion, and was promoted to a Class 4 truck driver, where he remained until his untimely death on September 1, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Tom was assigned primarily to Wheatfield Township and performed snow removal and other maintenance operations in that township from 1981 to present, he performed the duties of crew leader since 1999 and supervised tree cutting operations and other maintenance activities of the district; and 

WHEREAS, Tom was involved in various levels of union representation all through his career, and served as AFSCME Local 1499 President for the past 18 years.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honors Thomas J. Doyle for 32 years of dedicated service to the Road Commission, the Board appreciates the many contributions he has made to the County of Ingham and its citizens.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Tom has touched the lives of many and will live forever in the hearts of his co-workers, friends and family – especially his loving wife Kathy, children Kenneth and Michelle, and grandchildren James, Nevaeh and Ryan.
