RESOLUTION HONORING THE LANSING AREA AIDS NETWORK AND THE EVANS SCHOLARS OF MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY ON THE EVENT OF THE LANSING AREA AIDS WALK MICHIGAN

RESOLUTION #09-319

WHEREAS, AIDS Walk Michigan is a non-profit organization that began in 1998 to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS and to raise money for local AIDS Service Organizations in participating Michigan communities; and

WHEREAS, this special collaboration is unique in the United States, featuring 7 AIDS Walks in 7 cities, all under one-umbrella organization; and

WHEREAS, funds for AIDS Walk Michigan come from a variety of sources, those participating in AIDS Walk Michigan ask for pledge dollars from friends, family members, co-workers or classmates to help sponsor their walk; and

WHEREAS, local and statewide corporations and businesses also support AIDS Walk Michigan with cash or in-kind contributions, which help to underwrite and support the cost of the annual event; and

WHEREAS, funds generated by each AIDS Walk are dedicated to HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and care services and pledge dollars from each walk remain in the local community where it is raised to help support local AIDS Service Organizations; and

WHEREAS, the Lansing Area AIDS Network serves 11 Mid-Michigan counties, providing direct HIV care programs and prevention services; and

WHEREAS, on Sunday, September 27, 2009 the Lansing Area AIDS Network, along with their hosts, the Evans Scholars of Michigan State University, and hundreds of other walkers will participate in the Lansing area AIDS Walk Michigan beginning at Valley Court Park in East Lansing at 1:00 pm.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board hereby honors the Lansing Area AIDS Network, along with hosts, the Evans Scholars of Michigan State University on the event of the Lansing Area AIDS Walk Michigan and for their determination to take one step towards a solution in the battle against HIV/AIDS!

BE   IT FURTHER  RESOLVED,  that  the  Board  sincerely  appreciates  the  dedication  and  commitment  to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Ingham County and encourages all  residents to participate in the AIDS Walk Michigan on September 27, 2009.
