RESOLUTION TO ADOPT THE POTTER PARK ZOO MASTER PLAN
RESOLUTION #10-037
WHEREAS, the Potter Park Zoo Board identified a need to update the Potter Park Zoo Master Plan to provide direction for Zoo operations and improvements; and
WHEREAS, the existing Master Plan was completed in 1995, and no longer addresses the needs of the Zoo; and
WHEREAS, Potter Park Zoo, Potter Park Zoo Society, Ingham County Facilities and Ingham County Parks staff collected the necessary data for the Master Plan, and in 2009 the Board of Commissioners authorized entering into a contract with Jones and Jones Architects to complete the Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, the new Potter Park Zoo Master Plan has been completed with input from all interested parties, the citizens of Ingham County, the Ingham County Board of Commissioners, the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Potter Park Zoo Board, the Potter Park Zoological Society, Potter Park Zoo staff, and Ingham County Parks staff; and
WHEREAS, the Master Plan is considered a 20 year plan that consists of eight phases and is intended to provide guidelines for the orderly development of the Potter Park Zoo; and
WHEREAS, the Potter Park Zoo Board supported the final draft of the Potter Park Zoo Master Plan at their February 2, 2010 meeting with passage of Resolution #06-10; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission supported the final draft of the Potter Park Zoo Master Plan with the passage of Resolution #03-10 and recommends Board of Commissioner approval.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners adopts the 2010 Potter Park Zoo Master Plan as presented by the Potter Park Zoo Board and the Ingham County Parks and Recreation Commission.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the goals and objectives for 2010 through 2030, as stated in the Master Plan, shall be construed as desirable goals only with no implied commitment on the part of the Board of Commissioners to fund any particular recommendation contained therein.
