RESOLUTION HONORING MILTON SCALES ON THE EVENT OF HIS RETIREMENT
RESOLUTION #10-211
WHEREAS, on October 22, 1977, Milton Scales was hired as a Detroit Police Officer, where he earned a Chief's citation for breaking up an armed robbery, disarming and arresting a suspect without incident; and
WHEREAS, in April of 1980, he began his career with the State of Michigan as a Conservation Officer for the Department of Natural Resources, in September of 1980 he was assigned to the Jackson district; and
WHEREAS, as a result of Wayne County losing their Marine Safety fund, the Department of Natural Resources took over their program and in February of 1982, Milton was assigned to Marine Safety Section out of Wayne County and became a Marine Safety Specialist before returning to the Jackson District in 1983 as a Marine Safety Officer; and
WHEREAS, in the summer of 1984 he was elected Director-at-Large of the Michigan State Employees Association (MSEA) where he spent a large portion of 1984 and 1985 on union leave handling the union's business as the Operations Chairperson and Lobbyist, in 1986 he was appointed Vice President of MSEA; and
WHEREAS, in 1987 Milton was promoted to Detective./Sergeant of the Environmental Investigation Section (EIS), assigned to the Saginaw Office specializing in environmental enforcement, in 1988 he transferred to the Lansing district and became the Regional Investigator; and
WHEREAS, Milton received another promotion in 1995 to Lieutenant of EIS supervising the environmental investigators covering 2/3's of the state, in February of 1996, after the creation of the DEQ, he was appointed Acting Chief of the DEQ criminal investigators; and
WHEREAS, in August of 1996 he was promoted to Chief of what is currently known as the Office of Criminal Investigations where his duties included department Emergency Management and Homeland Security Coordinator, he represented the Director on councils, boards and committees and served as Chairperson of the State Emergency Planning Community Right-to-Know Committee; and
THEREFORE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners hereby congratulates Milton Scales on the event of his retirement and extends its sincere appreciation to Milton for over 30 years of dedicated service to the citizens of the State of Michigan and, in particular, Ingham County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board wishes him continued success in all of his future endeavors.
