RESOLUTION HONORING DR. SUSAN APPLEGATE KROUSE
RESOLUTION #10-216
WHEREAS, Dr. Susan Applegate Krouse, an Oklahoma Cherokee also known as Ziigwam Nibi Kwe “Spring Water Woman”, received her Ph.D. in anthropology from University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee; and
WHEREAS, she was Director of the American Indian Studies Program and Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Michigan State University where she taught courses on Native people, including North American Indian Ethnography, American Indian Women, Great Lakes Indians, and Contemporary Native Communities; and
WHEREAS, Susan also served as Adjunct Curator of Great Lakes Ethnology at the MSU Museum; and
WHEREAS, her passion was her work in American Indian studies and the students that she mentored; and
WHEREAS, her other accomplishments include planner of a project on Michigan Indian treaties, consultant on projects on Michigan Indians and evaluator for project on powwows, to name a few; and
WHEREAS. Susan was the author of numerous books and articles in her field, her research focused on urban American Indians.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honors Dr. Susan Applegate Krouse for the many contributions she has made to the community and for her devotion to her students and the citizens of Ingham County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Susan has touched the lives of many and will live forever in the hearts of her colleagues, friends and family.
